Contributor Day

Come to WordCamp London’s Contributor day on 20th of March and learn all about being involved with the WordPress project!

We will be kicking the day off at 10am and finishing at 5pm!

Make sure you book your spot at the event!

“Whether you’re a budding developer, a pixel-perfect designer, or just like helping out, we’re always looking for people to help make WordPress even better.“

WordPress.org

Never contributed before?

That’s okay! This is a chance for you to learn how to contribute from people who are already contributors all in one day!

It really does not matter what your knowledge of WordPress is, nor do you need to be a developer or coder to be involved. There will be plenty of people on hand to help you get started!

Be Prepared

Please make sure that you register for the contributor day.

On the day, make sure you bring your laptop and charger!

If you need any adaptors for your plugs to be converted to UK plug sockets, please don’t forget these too!

If you can, please make sure that you have the following:

For some teams, it is also necessary to have a local installation of WordPress. If you do not have a local installation of WordPress, feel free to use this guide to set one up. If not, there will be a set up team on hand to help you out on the day.

The different ways to contribute

There are a number of areas where you can make a difference. Contributions to WordPress are split into different teams.

If you are unsure of what team you would like to join, don’t panic. There will be people on the day whom can help you find what team will suit you best.

You can also move from different teams if you find something isn’t to your taste.

For more information about each team please follow the links below.

  • Accessibility – Make sure that WordPress core and all of WordPress’ resources are accessible.
  • BuddyPress – Support the tool which builds WordPress communities.
  • Core – You can write code, fix bugs, debate decisions, and help with WordPress development.
  • Polyglots – WordPress is used all over the world and in many different languages. If you’re a polyglot, contribute by translating WordPress into your own language.
  • Support – Answering a question in the support forums or IRC is one of the easiest ways to start contributing. Everyone knows the answer to something! You may need to have access to a test WordPress site (to be able to reproduce problems people mention)
  • Themes – Reviewing Themes sharpens your own Theme development skills. You can help out and join the discussion on the blog.

And More!

There are many other teams that are not currently listed. Please check make.wordpress.org for the full list of teams.

Already a Contributor?

Fab! Come along and help support people who are finding their feet in our awesome community!

If you are coming to WordCamp London and want to join a team which is not featured here, please contact us and we’ll add it to the list!

We’re looking for people to lead and support the various contributor groups. Team mentors support the team members on the day. This will include helping them in getting started and any problems that will arise. If you can help out as a team mentor let us know.
