Speaking at a WordCamp, is awesome. You get to share something you’re passionate about, folk listen, everyone wins. It takes courage, for some a lot more than others. We’re hugely grateful to the 44 speakers confirmed for WordCamp London this year.
Over the next few days, we’ll be announcing our amazing speakers to the world! Say hello to our first batch below, and note well where their sessions fall in the schedule.
Adrian Roselli – ‘Selfish Accessibility‘
Adrian has been developing for the Web since 1993. He has written articles for trade journals, web sites, and participated as an author and editor on five web-related books. He co-founded a software development consulting firm in 1998 before leaving at the start of 2016 to start all over.
Alain Schlesser – ‘Wrapping A Modern PHP Architecture Around A Legacy WordPress Site‘
Alain is a freelance software engineer and WordPress consultant living in Germany. Having started out as a government agent working in prison administration in Luxembourg, he has recently made the switch to self-employment and offers his WordPress services and expertise through his company Bright Nucleus.
Aleksander Kuczek – ‘Get Your Plugin Ready for the New WordPress Plugin Directory‘
Aleksander is an OpenSource CMS aficionado, Joomla Extension Directory team member, and WordPress Directory aspiring team member (as well as a foodie and computer games freak and huge fan of London parks and English tea rooms!). Currently CEO Perfect Dashboard.
Alice Still – ‘Making Your Website More Inclusive Using Tone‘
Alice is a copywriter and the founder of Unramble a little content agency in Brighton, UK. She specialises in tone of voice and likes creating user-friendly content strategies, and writing accessible website copy. Community and inclusiveness both online and off are important to her.
Chris Jansen – ‘Challenges and Solutions in Getting your Open Source Company to Contribute‘ (with Jeffrey A. McGuire)
Chris is a developer at Deeson and has been working with Drupal since 2011. After becoming an active Drupal community member in 2013 he is now one of the top 10 Drupal 8 core contributors in the Netherlands and maintains and contributes to many contributed modules.
Chris Wiegman – ‘Encrypt All The Things: Practical Encryption from SSL to Email and Beyond‘
Chris is a developer for UF Health at the University of Florida and has been working on WordPress since 2008. He built one of the largest security plugins on WordPress.org. When not coding he loves to teach, including computer security for St. Edward’s University and other University courses ranging from computers to aviation.
Crispin Read – ‘Object Oriented User Experience‘
Crispin is a consultant specialising in UX and agile practice with almost 20 years professional experience of user focussed development and open source frameworks. His spare time taken up by a film club podcast and writing passive aggressive letters to his cat.
Dave Walker – ‘The WordPress Cartoonist – A User’s Perspective‘
Dave Walker is a freelance cartoonist based in Essex, UK. He has used WordPress to create cartoon websites since 2005. These have included sites with cartoons for bloggers, cyclists and churchgoers, along with his own blog and portfolio site, davewalker.com
David Lockie – ‘How to Grow from Freelancer to Agency Owner‘
David is the Founder & Director of Pragmatic – a WordPress specialist agency. He has experience building a WordPress business from the ground up having grown his agency from one freelancer to over 40 full-time employees over the course of 5 years.
Denise VanDeCruze – ‘Working Across Time Zones‘ (Lightning session day 1)
Denise has been building Web Sites for over 20 years and is passionate about empowering people through technology. She loves coffee and travel and lives in Vienna. She currently works at OnTheGo Systems as the Training Manager.
Edd Hurst – ‘Migrating Content is Like Moving House: How Did We End Up with all this Stuff? And where does it all go now?‘
Ed first met WordPress 8 years ago as a Front-End Developer and before he knew it was running his department, pitching to clients and managing projects. Once, he helped save a whale. But on a normal day he loves problem-solving, whether for clients or team members (including explaining technical jargon with friendly metaphors, humour and large hand movements).
Elizabeth S Barker – ‘WordPowerment: Practical Approaches to Diversity and Empowerment in the WordPress Community‘
Libby joined Human Made as a Project Manager in April 2016. Prior to her introduction to the WordPress community, Libby worked primarily in film and television, most notably with The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and the Food Network. In 2014 she and her husband moved from New York City to Vermont where she enjoys hiking, great local food and being involved in the local tech community.
