Hey Guys,
I’d really like to see a more developer focussed track this year. There is so much that could be covered i.e. API, WP-CLI, customising the customizer, coding best practice for theme/plugin development, writing secure code (aka escape all the things) etc. It would be great to see more of that reflected. As a developer, the most useful talk for me last year was Tom’s about Varying Vagrant Vagrant.
I’d also like to see something about what is new in WordPress, what’s next? Maybe some discussion panels around these? (I know Gutenburg is quite a talking point atm). I see London as the UK Flagship for WordCamps (as I’m sure you do 🙂 ), it would be great to see latest developments announced to the UK at WCLDN 🙂
Hope that helps.
Gutenberg page templates.
Something on GDPR could be quite topical, as it’ll be about a month away! Especially specific responsibilities of what website owners, web designers/developers and web hosts should be doing…
+1 for Gutenberg page templates, and creating blocks!
Hi!
Anything business related, not only focus to development but more on how to manage a business, get clients, deal with clients, advertising, etc.
I’d be keen to attend talks on accessibility, (advanced) performance tuning and scaling, headless WP, WP as an authenticated data store (preferably not using oauth) {I realise that’s very specific…}, (advanced) code and site and platform security. I suppose basically Accessibility and advanced dev talks.
Please don’t forget the absolute newbies. My son (who is not an absolute newbie but is easily intimidated) and I kind of stumble around and we want to make sure we are doing things the right way in our own site development. We are not professional programmers, but as bloggers we love WordPress.
A WordPress for the rank beginner – or at least non-developer – is just dandy.
Something relating to what child themes are and how they save your ass – perfect for beginners looking to make small changes to their site while maintaining authored theme updates. I’d be happy to do a talk about them (Would be my first and I’d be bricking it, but hey ho!). Countless times have I worked on WordPress sites where the previous dev hasn’t used a child theme and it has gone tits up.
Thank you for your ideas so far everyone. We’ll be sure to consider each idea – it seems there’s quite a variety which should appeal to most, if not all!
Hi Ash, if you’d like to try your hand at speaking you can click here to apply. Even if you don’t have much (or any experience), we’ll still consider! 😁
